Joys and Concerns
from the Mohawk District

"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Mohawk District Prayer List

 

Please send any prayer requests to me at mailto:prayerrequests@mohawkdistrictumc.org . They will also be forwarded to the district office.

Please send the prayer request, and contact information to reach you (the person sending the request).

Prayer requests will stay on this list for 4 weeks. If you would like the request to continue, please resubmit the request, and it will be continued on the list.

February Prayer Focus

 

Pray for the NCNY Council and Ministry Teams, and the ministry of the conference office staff ~ Pray for all the Volunteers in Mission as they continue to lead mission trips in various parts of the country and around the world ~ Pray that all our United Methodists in NCNY would commit to a spiritual discipline in the season of Lent and beyond ~ Pray for the Rev. David Underwood, and the ministry of the Crossroads District.

UMM Prayer for Blacksburg VA

 

Father, right now we acknowledge You & we acknowledge Your presence & Your sovereignty. 
Father we lift up Virginia Tech & the people affected by the evil that has taken place on the campus. 
We pray that Your Spirit be with them. 
We pray that Your loving arms be wrapped around them & comfort them in this tragic time. 
We pray for families, neighbors, & friends. 
We pray for staff, professors, & administrators. 
God, we pray for people. 
We pray for humanity. 
We pray that this event will not cause people to turn from You but it will cause a nation to run to You like they have never run before. 
We pray for increased faith. 
We pray for spiritual growth. 
We pray for Christian fellowship & salvation of souls. 
We pray that your hand will move mightily over Blacksburg, VA & over this nation. 
Touch souls right now & comfort broken hearts. 
Forgive us for our sins Father. 
In Your Son Jesus Christ name we pray.  Amen.

Five Finger Prayer

1. Thumb

Your thumb is nearest to you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you.

They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C.S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty".

2. Pointing finger

The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers.

They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.

3. Tallest finger

The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators.

These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance.

4. Ring finger

The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is fact that this is our weakest finger; as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain.

They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.

5. Little finger

And lastly comes our little finger; the smallest finger of all which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others.

As the Bible says, "the least shall be the greatest among you."  Your pinky should remind you to pray for yourself.

By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.
 
Remember to give thanks in all things and ask forgiveness. And pray to do God's will always!
