Mohawk District Church Growth Workshop
To follow up the spiritual gifts and graces workshop offered in the spring of 2007, a survey on the needs of workshops and trainings for effective use spiritual gifts and graces was conducted last fall during the cluster church conferences. The number one interest that the churches had was congregational development (church growth).
Responding to the interest of the churches in the Mohawk District, we invite Rev. Lauren Swanson, Director of Congregational Development of our Conference, to our District. Rev. Swanson will help our churches to grow by introducing visioning process, how to develop ministries to reach out to the people in the community, and how to use your spiritual gifts in ministry. Everyone is invited to this exciting event.
The workshops will be held in the following places:
April 7 – North Columbia UMC (Handicapped accessible)
April 8 – Bouckville UMC (Handicapped accessible)
April 9 – Vienna UMC (Handicapped accessible)
April 15 – Salisbury Center UMC (Partially handicapped accessible, one step into building, step to restroom. Anyone using a wheelchair will be assisted.)
April 16 – Boonville UMC (Handicapped accessible)
April 17 – Maynard UMC (Handicapped accessible)
All workshops are identical and will take place 6:30 – 9:00 PM.

VIM Training Events Offered
North Central New York
United Methodist Volunteers in Mission Coordinator, Sylvia Reimer, announces
that there will be two training events for Volunteer in
The first will be a VIM team leader training event being held on May 3, from 10 am to 3:30 pm in the fellowship hall of Cicero United Methodist Church. We would especially encourage those who have been participants on VIM teams to attend this event in preparation for taking out teams on their own. The second event will be an Early Response Team (ERT) training on May 10, from 10 am until 3:30 pm, again in the fellowship hall at Cicero UMC. It is becoming the norm for emergency personnel (police, fire department, etc) working in disaster areas to require that Early Response Teams be able to prove that they have received the training to work in such areas safely and responsibly. This is different from the recovery teams on which many from our conference have been a part. This will be conducted by a team who recently attended a “Train the Trainer” event.
Deadline for registrations will be April 25. Please go to the Conference web site and scroll down to "VIM Training Opportunities" for more detailed information, and to register for these event. Information will also be in the March edition of UM Connections.
Mohawk District S/PPRC Training
What does your S/PPR Committee do? When do they meet? Does your S/PPR Committee meet a couple of times a year to work on pastor’s salary and revise Mission and Ministry Profile? Do they have additional meetings only when it is necessary to discuss complaints and conflicts?
When S/PPRC does not function properly, neither does the church. S/PPRC is the place where the pastor and the congregation envision the ministry of the church. Of course, S/PPRC deals with conflicts and issues. Conflicts are part of life. The role of S/PPRC is to transform the energy of conflicts into a positive energy. Do you know how to do this? Please come and learn. Rev. Sung Ho Lee will lead the training sessions. All facilities are handicapped accessible.
Pastors, please attend one of the following trainings with your S/PPRC members:
May 6, 6:30 – 9:00 PM, Hamilton UMC OK! (Chair lift to fellowship hall)
May 12, 6:30 – 9:00 PM, Delta UMC
May 13, 6:30 – 9:00 PM, Herkimer UMC
May 14, 6:30 – 9:00 PM, Oneida St. Paul’s UMC
No registration needed, Contact the Mohawk District office if you have questions.
